Frequently asked questions

What is the brake hose banjo bolt used for?
The brake hose banjo bolt is the hollow bolt that secures the banjo end of a flexible brake hose to the caliper or wheel cylinder on the Land Rover Discovery 2. Its central drilling lets brake fluid pass through the joint while clamping the fitting leak-tight.
How many banjo bolts are needed for a brake hose job?
You typically need one banjo bolt per flexible brake hose connection on the Discovery 2. A sealing washer fits each side of the banjo eye, so plan on two new copper washers per bolt to keep the joint leak-free.
Can the banjo bolt be reused?
The banjo bolt can usually be reused if it's clean and undamaged, but the copper sealing washers either side of the banjo fitting should be replaced every time the joint is opened. Reusing old washers on the Discovery 2 brake hose often leads to a weeping connection.
What's involved in fitting the brake hose banjo bolt?
Fitting the banjo bolt means opening the brake hydraulic circuit at the caliper or wheel cylinder, so the brakes must be bled afterwards on the Discovery 2. New copper sealing washers go each side of the banjo eye. It's a job for someone confident working on brakes.
