What are the TF497 Watts linkage arms and what do they do?
The TF497 is a pair of long-travel link rods for the rear axle Watts linkage on a Land Rover Discovery 2. The Watts linkage controls sideways location of the rear axle, and these rods are lengthened and curved so the axle can droop much further without the linkage binding.
Why fit long-travel Watts linkage arms?
Long-travel Watts linkage arms are needed when suspension travel is increased on a Discovery 2. The standard rods reach the limit of their geometry, bind and can be damaged at full droop. The TF497 rods are shaped to clear the surrounding structure so the axle moves freely.
Do I need new bushes with these arms?
The Watts linkage bushes are available separately. You can use the standard replacement bush kit RGX100960K or the polyurethane kit TF1035 with the TF497 arms. Fitting fresh bushes at the same time is worthwhile since the linkage is already stripped down.
