The steering damper relocation kit repositions the steering damper from the track rod to the drag link, the more protected mounting used on the Defender. On the Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic the standard track rod position is exposed to impacts off-road, and this kit moves it clear.

The relocation kit fits the Land Rover Discovery 1 (1989-1998) and Range Rover Classic (up to 1994). It suits both left and right-hand drive vehicles and is made from zinc-plated steel, converting the standard track rod damper mount to the drag link position.
Why relocate the steering damper?
Relocating the damper to the drag link protects it from impacts during off-road use, where the track rod position is vulnerable. It also lets you fit Defender-specification steering dampers. The kit changes only the mounting location, so you keep using a standard damper unit.
