Frequently asked questions

What is the STC3771 rear shock absorber?
The STC3771 is the rear shock absorber for the Defender 110 and 130. It damps the rear coil springs so the axle follows the ground instead of oscillating. This is the normal duty specification, made by Girling, and it mounts between the chassis turret and the rear axle.
Does the STC3771 fit a Defender 90?
The STC3771 is listed for the Defender 110 and 130 wheelbase from 1987 to 2006. Defender 90 rear dampers are typically a different length because of the shorter wheelbase and mounting position, so measure the eye to eye length on your existing unit if you're unsure.
When do Defender rear shock absorbers need replacing?
Replace the rear dampers when the Defender 110 wallows after bumps, the rear end skips sideways over rough surfaces, or you can see oil running down the damper body. Worn rear dampers also accelerate tyre wear. They are normally replaced as an axle pair so both sides damp equally.
