The fuel return check valve is a non-return valve in the Td5 fuel return line. It lets fuel flow one way only, stopping fuel draining back out of the system and helping keep the circuit primed for restarting. It fits the 2.5L Td5 5-cylinder turbo diesel fuel system.
Which Land Rovers use this Td5 check valve?
This check valve fits the Defender and Discovery 2 with the 2.5L Td5 diesel engine. Both used the same non-return valve in the fuel return circuit. Confirm your vehicle is a Td5 rather than an earlier 300Tdi before ordering, as the fuel systems differ.
Where does the check valve sit in the Td5 fuel system?
The check valve sits in the fuel return circuit, typically associated with the fuel return and sedimentor pipework on the Td5. It controls the direction of fuel flow back from the engine, stopping reverse flow that would drain the system when the engine is off.
What are the signs this fuel return valve has failed?
Hard starting after the vehicle has stood, or needing to crank longer to build fuel pressure, are typical signs the return check valve is leaking back. A valve that no longer seals lets the Td5 fuel circuit lose its prime. Air in the fuel lines can also point to it.
