Frequently asked questions

What is the DA5278 ball joint boot used for?
The DA5278 is a polyurethane ball joint boot that seals over the front axle upper and lower ball joints. It retains grease and keeps out dirt, water and grit. It's moulded in polyurethane as a tougher replacement for the standard rubber boot, and fits Discovery 2 and Range Rover P38.
How many ball joint boots are needed for a front axle job?
Ball joint boots are typically replaced in sets. Each front hub carries an upper and lower ball joint, so a full front axle refresh usually needs four boots across both sides. Check how many joints you're actually servicing before ordering.
Why do ball joint boots fail on a Discovery 2 or P38?
Ball joint boots fail when the polyurethane or original rubber perishes, splits or tears with age and heat. Once split, grease escapes and grit and water get into the joint, which speeds up wear. Replacing a damaged boot early protects the ball joint underneath.
