Krukasafdichting - Achter dicht de achterkant van de krukas af waar deze het cilinderblok aan de vliegwielzijde verlaat, waardoor olie binnen de onderkant blijft en van de koppeling wegblijft.

Dit is de liptype krukasafdichting voor de V8-benzinemotor, die in het achterste hoofdlagerschild zit. Deze is niet uitwisselbaar met de eerdere touwafdichtingsconstructie.

What is the ERR2640LR crankshaft oil seal used for?
The ERR2640LR is the rear crankshaft oil seal (Land Rover part ERR2640) for the V8 petrol engine. It seals the back of the crankshaft at the flywheel end where it exits the cylinder block, keeping engine oil in the bottom end and off the clutch.
Which Land Rover models does this rear main seal fit?
This rear main seal fits V8 petrol engines in the Defender up to 2016, Series 2 and 3, Discovery 1, Discovery 2, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38. It's the later lip-type seal, so it won't suit early rope-seal engines.
Why does the rear crankshaft seal fail, and what are the signs?
The rear crankshaft seal typically fails as the lip hardens and shrinks with age and heat, letting oil weep from the bellhousing. Signs are oil drips at the gearbox-to-engine joint and, in worse cases, oil reaching the clutch and causing slip or judder.
Does the engine have to come out to fit this seal?
No, the engine usually stays in place, but the gearbox, clutch and flywheel must come off to reach the rear of the crankshaft. Because of that labour, it's common to renew this seal whenever the clutch is replaced on these V8 engines.
