Krukasafdichting - Achter sluit de achterkant van de krukas af waar deze de cilinderkop verlaat aan de vliegwielzijde, houdt olie binnenin het onderblok en voorkomt dat deze op de koppeling terechtkomt.

Dit is de liptype krukasafdichting aan de achterzijde voor de V8 benzinemotor, passend in het achterste hoofdlagerschild. Het is niet uitwisselbaar met de eerdere touwafdichting.

What is the rear crankshaft oil seal and what does it do?
The rear crankshaft oil seal is the rear main seal for the Land Rover V8 petrol engine. It seals the back of the crankshaft where it leaves the block at the flywheel end, keeping engine oil in the bottom end and off the clutch. This is the lip-type seal. Part number ERR2640.
Is this the lip-type or the early rope-type seal?
This is the lip-type rear main seal and it is not interchangeable with the earlier rope-type seal arrangement. Confirm your V8 block is the later lip-seal type before fitting, as the two designs are not a swap for one another.
What are the signs the rear main seal needs replacing?
A failing rear main seal typically weeps oil from the back of the engine, leaving drips around the bellhousing. Because access means removing the gearbox, it's usually renewed whenever the clutch or gearbox is out, even as a precaution.
Which V8 models does this seal fit?
This lip-type rear main seal fits the V8 petrol engine in the Land Rover Defender 1987-2006, Discovery 1, Discovery 2, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38, plus the Series III Stage 1 V8. It does not suit early rope-seal engines.
