Frequently asked questions

What is the V8 main bearing set (RTC1718) for?
This main bearing set is the replaceable shell bearings that carry the crankshaft in the Rover 3.5-litre V8 block. Each shell locates a main journal and gives the running surface the crank turns on. It's a King-branded set.
What does the Standard size mean on this bearing set?
Standard size suits a crankshaft running at its original, unmachined main journal diameters. If your crank has been reground, you'll need an undersize set instead, so check the journals before ordering.
Which engines and models does this set fit?
This set fits the 3.5-litre Rover V8 in Defender (1987-2006, twin carb), Discovery 1 (1989-1998), Range Rover Classic (1986-1994) and the Series III 109 Stage One V8.
What are the signs the main bearings need replacing?
Low oil pressure, a deep knocking noise and measured bearing wear typically point to main bearing replacement. They're usually renewed during an engine rebuild once the crank is out for inspection.
