What does the 3.5L V8 head gasket do?

The 3.5L V8 head gasket seals the joint between a cylinder head and the engine block. Of metal construction, it contains combustion pressure in each bore and seals the coolant and oil passages crossing the head-to-block face. Fits the 3.5L V8 petrol engine in Land Rover Series 3, Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic.

How many head gaskets does a 3.5L V8 need?

A 3.5L V8 uses two cylinder head gaskets, one per bank, so you'll need two for a full engine job. Each seals one head to the block. When replacing them on the Land Rover 3.5 V8 it's usual to renew the head bolts and other head-set gaskets at the same time.

What are the signs of a failed 3.5L V8 head gasket?

A failed 3.5L V8 head gasket typically shows as coolant loss, white exhaust smoke, oil and coolant mixing, or overheating. On the Rover V8 it can also cause loss of compression between cylinders.
