The ERR7283G seals the inlet manifold to the cylinder block valley on the Rover V8 petrol engine. This formed seal closes the valley joint at the front and rear where the manifold meets the block, preventing oil leaking from the valley. Supplied as a single formed seal, Land Rover number ERR7283.

Which V8 Land Rovers use the ERR7283G valley seal?

The ERR7283G fits the Rover V8 petrol engine in the Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1, Discovery 2, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38. It covers both the earlier 3.5L twin-carb and the 3.9, 4.0 and 4.6L EFI V8s, so it suits most Rover V8 manifold resealing jobs.

Does this seal fit all Range Rover Classic V8s?

On the Range Rover Classic this seal applies to the 1992-1994 V8 EFI from VIN JA610294 onward. Earlier Classics used a different manifold sealing arrangement. For the Defender, Discovery and P38 V8s it covers the EFI engines, so check your chassis number if you have a Classic.

Should this manifold seal be replaced every time?

Yes, replace the inlet manifold valley seal whenever the manifold comes off. These formed seals take a set once compressed, so reusing an old one typically leads to oil weeps from the valley. Fit a new ERR7283 seal on reassembly and clean the mating faces first.
