Frequently asked questions

What is the V8 inlet manifold seal used for?
The inlet manifold seal closes the manifold valley joint where the inlet manifold meets the cylinder block on the Land Rover V8 petrol engine. It seals the front and rear of the valley, preventing engine oil leaking from the block valley. It's supplied as a single formed seal.
Which Land Rover models does this V8 manifold seal fit?
This seal fits V8 petrol Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1, Discovery 2, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38. On Range Rover Classic it applies from VIN JA610294. Check your VIN against the V8 engine variant to confirm the correct seal before ordering.
What are the signs the manifold valley seal needs replacing?
A failed valley seal typically shows as engine oil seeping from the join between the inlet manifold and the block valley on the V8. The rubber hardens and shrinks with age and heat. Replace it whenever the inlet manifold is removed, as the old seal rarely reseals once disturbed.
Can the manifold seal be reused when refitting the manifold?
No, the manifold seal is typically single-use. Once the inlet manifold has been lifted, the formed seal is usually compressed and distorted, so refitting it risks an oil leak. Fit a new seal every time the manifold comes off as standard practice on the V8.
