Frequently asked questions

What does the MHK100940 oxygen sensor do?
The MHK100940 is the front (upstream, pre-catalyst) lambda sensor. It threads into the exhaust downpipe ahead of the catalytic converter and reports exhaust oxygen content to the ECU, which trims fuelling in closed loop to hold the correct air/fuel mixture.
Where is the front oxygen sensor fitted?
The MHK100940 front oxygen sensor threads into the exhaust downpipe upstream of the catalytic converter. On the Freelander 1 2.5L KV6 and Range Rover P38 4.0L or 4.6L V8 it's the pre-cat lambda sensor feeding the engine management ECU.
What are the signs of a failing front oxygen sensor?
Typically rough idle, poor fuel economy, an illuminated engine warning light, or failed emissions. A worn pre-cat lambda sensor usually forces the ECU to run open loop with incorrect fuelling on the KV6 and V8 engines.
Which vehicles does the MHK100940 fit?
The MHK100940 fits the Freelander 1 (1997-2006) with the 2.5L KV6 petrol engine and the Range Rover P38 (1994-2001) with the 4.0L or 4.6L V8. Use your VIN to confirm the correct front sensor before ordering.
