Brand Hardy Spicer

Frequently asked questions

What is the rear propshaft FRC4907 and what does it do?
The rear propshaft transmits drive from the transfer box output flange to the rear axle differential on the 88-inch short-wheelbase chassis. A universal joint at each end handles axle articulation and suspension movement, while a splined slip joint absorbs the change in length as the axle travels. Both ends are flange-mounted.
Which Land Rovers does this 88-inch rear propshaft fit?
This rear propshaft fits the Series 2 and 2A 88-inch short-wheelbase (1958-1971). It's specific to the 88-inch length, so it won't suit the 109-inch long-wheelbase. Confirm your wheelbase before ordering, and match the Land Rover number FRC4907 to be sure.
Why might a rear propshaft need replacing on a Series Land Rover?
A rear propshaft usually needs attention when the universal joints wear, causing vibration, a clunk on take-up, or play at the joints. The splined slip joint can also wear or seize. Worn universal joints left unchecked can fail and drop the shaft, so they're typically checked at service.
