Frequently asked questions

What is the STC3941 rear shock absorber used for?
It's the early-style rear shock absorber for the Range Rover Classic and early Discovery 1, damping suspension movement at the rear axle. It uses a two-half bush upper eye, fitted to the bracket with a large washer and split pin rather than a standard bolt.
Which vehicles does the STC3941 fit?
It fits the Range Rover Classic up to VIN HA610293, very early Discovery 1 (1990), and 109-inch Series IIA models only. Later Discovery 1 and post-1970 Range Rover Classic variants use a different shock absorber, so confirm your VIN before ordering.
How do I know if the STC3941 shock absorber needs replacing?
Signs include a bouncy or wallowing ride, clunking over bumps, visible oil leaking from the body, or uneven rear tyre wear. Shock absorbers typically wear out from age and seal degradation rather than sudden failure, so replace them in pairs for even damping.
What's the difference between the STC3941, STC3941B and STC3941GIRLING?
All three cover the same fitment and part number STC3941 but from different makes. This one is PR2 Pro. STC3941B is a Boge unit and STC3941GIRLING is a Girling unit. Fitment and function are identical, so the choice comes down to preferred brand.
