Het dempt de tank tegen de aan het chassis bevestigde spanbanden en beugels, absorbeert trillingen van het wegdek en voorkomt metaal-op-metaalschade tussen de tank en het frame. Het rubber vangt ook kleine dimensionele toleranties op, zodat de tank precies past en de spanbanden klemmen zonder de tankbehuizing te vervormen.
