Frequently asked questions

What does the ARA1501L Fuel Tank Sender Locking Ring do?
ARA1501L secures the fuel level sender unit in position within the fuel tank aperture on Land Rover Series, Defender, and Range Rover Classic models. It retains the sender against the tank flange and must be correctly seated and engaged to maintain a fuel-tight installation.
Which models does ARA1501L fit?
It fits the Defender up to 2006 (excluding Td5 variants), Range Rover Classic (1970-1994), Series II/IIA (109" wheelbase only), and Series III (109" from chassis suffix C onwards). It doesn't fit Td5 Defenders. Cross-references include 502559 and BR 1488.
When does the fuel tank sender locking ring need replacing?
Replace it when you detect a fuel smell at the top of the tank, when the sender unit is being replaced, or when the ring is cracked or won't engage correctly. A loose locking ring will leak fuel - correct engagement is critical.
