Frequently asked questions

What is the fan cowl flexible mounting for?
The fan cowl flexible mounting is a rubber mount that secures the engine cooling fan cowl to the radiator. It locates the cowl around the cooling fan while its rubber body absorbs vibration and allows slight movement between the cowl and radiator, keeping the cowl from rattling or chafing.
How many fan cowl mountings are needed?
Three of these flexible mountings are used to retain the fan cowl on this application. If one has perished it's worth replacing all three together, since they're the same age and a single failed mount lets the cowl move against the fan.
Why does the fan cowl mounting fail?
The fan cowl mounting fails when its rubber perishes, splits or softens from age, heat and engine bay oil. A failed mount lets the cowl work loose and move toward the spinning fan, which can cause rattles or contact damage. Replace perished mounts to hold the cowl securely.
