What is the Gearchange Spring used for on the LT77 gearbox?
The gearchange spring sits in the gear lever assembly of the LT77 five-speed manual gearbox. It biases the lever toward the central neutral gate, returning it to rest when you're not holding a gear. Fitted to the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic.
What are the signs the gearchange spring needs replacing?
A worn gearchange spring usually shows up as a gear lever that won't spring back to centre or won't sit cleanly in the neutral gate. Left unreplaced, gear selection gets vague and sloppy. This is typical on higher-mileage LT77 gearboxes.
