What does the V8 EFI air filter O-ring do?
The O-ring seals the joint between the air filter housing outlet and the airflow meter inlet on V8 EFI petrol engines. It stops unmetered air entering the intake downstream of the filter, so the airflow meter reads all incoming air correctly. Fitted across the Range Rover Classic, P38, Discovery 1 and V8 Defender.
Why does this air intake O-ring need replacing?
Over time the O-ring hardens and shrinks, letting unmetered air leak past the airflow meter on V8 EFI engines. That typically shows up as rough idle, weak running or a slightly high idle. Replacing it restores a sealed, correctly metered intake. It's worth renewing whenever the air filter housing is disturbed.
