The Idler Pulley is a smooth-faced guide pulley in the V8 auxiliary (serpentine) belt system. Mounted on a fixed pivot, it routes the accessory drive belt and keeps the correct belt wrap over the driven pulleys, running against the flat back of the belt.

What are the signs this idler pulley needs replacing?

A worn idler pulley usually shows up as bearing noise, a rumble or squeal from the front of the V8 engine, or visible wobble in the pulley. If the bearing seizes it can throw or shred the serpentine belt, so replace it once it gets noisy or rough to turn.
