Frequently asked questions

What is the SJJ100351 brake fluid reservoir kit?
SJJ100351 is a replacement brake fluid reservoir kit for the Defender master cylinder. The reservoir sits on the master cylinder, holds the hydraulic fluid supply for the braking circuit and carries the low level sensor connection.
Does this fit a Defender with ABS?
Yes. The kit is listed for Defender 90 and 110 both with and without ABS, so the same reservoir covers either setup. Confirm the master cylinder on your vehicle matches before ordering, since the Defender ran several master cylinder types over its production life.
Why do Defender brake fluid reservoirs get replaced?
The usual reasons are cracking around the mounting spigots or the cap thread, a weeping seal where the reservoir meets the master cylinder, or a low level sensor that no longer works. Age and heat make the plastic brittle, and a cracked reservoir loses fluid.
Does the brake system need bleeding after fitting?
The reservoir sits above the master cylinder, so removing it opens the fluid supply and lets air in. Expect to top up and bleed the Defender brakes afterwards to be sure the circuit is clear. Brake fluid also strips paint, so protect the bulkhead and wing.
