What does the STC8649 rear outrigger do?

The STC8649 is the rear left-hand tubular outrigger, a structural member that bolts to the rear of the Defender chassis. It supports the body and rear crossmember, transferring load into the main chassis rail. Left-hand side fitment.

Which Land Rovers does this outrigger fit?

This outrigger fits the Land Rover Defender 90 only, left-hand side, across 1987-2006 and 2007-2016 builds (later builds from VIN 7A000001). It's specific to the 90 wheelbase, so it won't fit 110 or 130 models.

Does this outrigger need treating before fitting?

Yes. This outrigger is supplied non-galvanised, so it should be painted or otherwise treated for corrosion protection before installation. Bare steel left untreated on the rear chassis will corrode quickly given road and weather exposure.

How is the rear outrigger fitted?

The rear outrigger bolts to the rear of the chassis. On corroded vehicles it typically needs the old outrigger removing and the mounting area cleaning up first, so it's usually a job for someone comfortable with chassis repair. Confirm 90 wheelbase fitment before ordering.
