Main Bearing Bolt for the 2.5L 300TDi turbo-diesel engine, used in the crankshaft main bearing assembly at the bottom end of the cylinder block.

The bolt secures a main bearing cap to the block, clamping the main bearing shells around the crankshaft journal so the crank is held true under load. Correct fasteners and torque are critical here: the bolts are highly stressed and are routinely renewed during a bottom-end rebuild rather than reused.

Frequently asked questions

What does the main bearing bolt do on a 300TDi engine?
The main bearing bolt secures a main bearing cap to the cylinder block on the 2.5L 300TDi engine. It clamps the main bearing shells around the crankshaft journal so the crank is held true under load at the bottom end of the block.
Can main bearing bolts be reused, or should they be replaced?
Main bearing bolts are typically renewed rather than reused. They're highly stressed fasteners, so on a 300TDi bottom-end rebuild they're usually replaced as standard to ensure correct clamping. Torque them to the workshop manual specification.
How many main bearing bolts are needed for a rebuild?
These are typically supplied individually, so a full 300TDi bottom-end rebuild needs several to cover every main bearing cap. Quantity depends on the number of caps on your block, so check what you need before ordering.
