Oil Pump Gear - drive gear for the engine oil pump assembly, within the engine lubrication circuit.

The gear turns the oil pump to draw oil from the sump and circulate it under pressure through the lubrication system. Fitted to 2.25L and 2.5L petrol and diesel engines. The companion idler gear is 614037.

The oil pump gear sits in the engine's lubrication system, driving the oil pump from the engine's gear train. On these four-cylinder Land Rover engines it's typically found in the timing area at the front of the block, meshing with the gear that spins the pump.
What happens if the oil pump gear is worn?
A worn oil pump gear can drop oil pressure, making the warning light flicker or stay on and risking serious engine damage. Chipped or worn teeth reduce how much oil the pump moves. On Discovery 1, Range Rover Classic, and Defender engines, low oil pressure is a strong reason to inspect the pump and its gears.
