Parts for the Land Rover Freelander 2, chassis code L359, produced from 2006 to 2014. Covers all engine variants: 2.2 diesel in eD4, TD4 and SD4 tune, 3.2 Si6 petrol, and 2.0 Si4 petrol from 2012. OEM, Genuine, and aftermarket components held in EU stock with fitment support by engine and VIN.
The Land Rover Freelander 2 (L359) was produced from December 2006 to October 2014 as a 5-door estate. It is built on the Ford EUCD platform, shared with the Volvo XC60 and the third-generation Ford Mondeo. The Freelander 2 was assembled primarily at the Halewood Body and Assembly plant near Liverpool and was succeeded by the Discovery Sport in 2015.
The model received a facelift for the 2013 model year, which introduced revised exterior styling and a new grille. The 2.0-litre Si4 petrol engine replaced the 3.2-litre Si6 as the petrol option from the 2012 model year in most markets.
Parts compatibility on the Freelander 2 depends on engine variant, model year, and drivetrain specification. The eD4 is front-wheel drive only. All other variants are four-wheel drive. Engine-specific parts including timing components, turbocharger assemblies, injectors, and sensors are not shared across variants. Always confirm your engine designation before ordering.
| Engine | Type | Years | Drive |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.2 eD4 (PSA DW12) | Diesel 4-cylinder, 150 hp | 2011 to 2014 | FWD only |
| 2.2 TD4 (PSA DW12) | Diesel 4-cylinder, 160 hp | 2006 to 2014 | 4WD |
| 2.2 SD4 (PSA DW12) | Diesel 4-cylinder, 190 hp | 2010 to 2014 | 4WD |
| 3.2 Si6 (Volvo B6324S5) | Petrol inline-6, 230 hp | 2006 to 2012 | 4WD |
| 2.0 Si4 (Ford EcoBoost) | Petrol inline-4, 240 hp | 2012 to 2014 | 4WD |
The eD4, TD4, and SD4 all use the same PSA DW12 2.2-litre diesel block. Many service items and body components are shared between these three variants. Turbocharger specification, injector calibration, and some engine management components differ between the TD4 and SD4. The Si4 and Si6 petrol engines use entirely different parts profiles and are not interchangeable with diesel variants or with each other.
For model year confirmation from your VIN, refer to the official Land Rover VIN guide: Land Rover VIN model year guide.
DrivetrainFour-wheel drive Freelander 2 variants use a Haldex active coupling system to distribute torque between the front and rear axles. Pre-2009 model year vehicles use the Haldex Generation 3 coupling, which responds reactively to axle speed differences. Vehicles from the 2009 model year onward use the Haldex Generation 4 coupling, which uses data from the ABS and engine management systems to pre-tension the clutch proactively before slip occurs.
The Haldex unit shares its oil with the rear differential on the Freelander 2. For Generation 4 vehicles (2009 model year onward), the recommended service interval is every 60,000 km, including an oil and internal filter change. For Generation 3 vehicles (pre-2009 model year), consult the vehicle service handbook or contact Budget Parts fitment support for the correct service specification. Neglected Haldex servicing is one of the most common causes of four-wheel drive loss on high-mileage L359 vehicles.
The eD4 variant does not use a Haldex coupling and has no rear differential. It is a front-wheel drive vehicle only and uses a simpler drivetrain layout than all other Freelander 2 variants.
Budget Parts stocks Haldex coupling components, rear differential parts, and propshaft assemblies for the four-wheel drive Freelander 2 range.
Parts CategoriesOver 200 parts are listed for the Freelander 2 in this collection, covering all major categories across the full production run.
Engine and cooling parts cover timing belt kits, water pumps, thermostats, coolant hoses, oil filters, and engine sensors. The 2.2-litre PSA DW12 diesel uses a timing belt that also drives the water pump, meaning both components must be replaced together at every timing belt service. Petrol engine parts including ignition components, coil packs, and sensors are listed for Si4 and Si6 variants separately.
Drivetrain parts cover Haldex coupling components, rear differential assemblies, propshaft components, front driveshafts, and CV joint kits. Confirm your model year before ordering Haldex components, as Generation 3 and Generation 4 units use different parts.
Turbocharger and induction parts cover turbocharger assemblies for TD4 and SD4 variants, intercoolers, boost hoses, and EGR components. SD4 and TD4 turbocharger specifications differ and are not interchangeable.
Suspension and steering parts cover front lower arm assemblies, rear spring isolators, drop links, wheel bearings, and steering components.
Braking parts cover front and rear brake discs, pads, caliper rebuild kits, and DOT 4 brake fluid. The Freelander 2 uses disc brakes at all four corners.
Body electrical parts cover window regulator and motor assemblies, rear lamp units, tailgate components, and sensor assemblies. Driver and passenger side window assemblies are not interchangeable.
Service and consumables cover engine oil, air filters, fuel filters, glow plugs for diesel variants, and spark plugs for petrol variants.
Transmission parts cover clutch kits for manual gearbox variants, automatic transmission fluid for Aisin AWF21 automatic variants, and gearbox service components.
Vehicle IdentificationThree pieces of information are required to order correctly for a Freelander 2: the engine designation, the model year, and whether the vehicle is four-wheel drive or front-wheel drive (for drivetrain components).
The three diesel engine designations (eD4, TD4, SD4) all use the same 2.2-litre PSA DW12 block, but they are not identical for all parts. The SD4 uses a higher-specification turbocharger than the TD4. The eD4 has no Haldex coupling, no rear propshaft, and no rear differential. Ordering drivetrain parts for an eD4 vehicle that are specified for a 4WD variant will result in an incorrect order.
The Si6 petrol was available from the launch in 2006 and ran primarily on pre-facelift vehicles. The Si4 replaced it from 2012 in most markets. Si4 and Si6 parts are not interchangeable. Engine code, engine displacement, and the number of cylinders differ between the two petrol options.
If you are uncertain of your engine designation, the engine code is accessible from the engine bay identification plate and is also decodable from the full 17-character VIN. Budget Parts provides fitment support for all five Freelander 2 engine variants. Contact the team with your VIN and engine code if you cannot confirm the correct part from the collection filters.

Land Rover service kits →The Freelander 2 was produced with five engine options across two families. The diesel range uses the 2.2-litre PSA DW12 engine in three states of tune: the eD4 (150 hp, front-wheel drive, from 2011), the TD4 (160 hp, four-wheel drive), and the SD4 (190 hp, four-wheel drive). The petrol range offered the 3.2-litre Volvo B6324S5 inline-six (Si6, 230 hp) on pre-facelift vehicles, and the 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost inline-four (Si4, 240 hp) from the 2012 model year. Parts are not interchangeable between engine families. Always confirm your engine designation before ordering.
The Haldex coupling is the active four-wheel drive unit that distributes torque between the front and rear axles on four-wheel drive Freelander 2 variants. All TD4, SD4, Si6, and Si4 models use a Haldex coupling. The eD4 is a front-wheel drive vehicle and does not have a Haldex unit, rear differential, or rear propshaft. Pre-2009 model year vehicles use Haldex Generation 3. Vehicles from the 2009 model year onward use Haldex Generation 4. The two generations use different coupling components and different service fluid, so confirming your model year is essential before ordering Haldex parts.
The 2.2-litre PSA DW12 diesel engine used in all three Freelander 2 diesel variants (eD4, TD4, and SD4) uses a timing belt, not a timing chain. The water pump on this engine is driven by the timing belt. If the timing belt fails, the water pump fails with it. Timing belt and water pump replacement must be carried out as a single service operation. The recommended replacement interval is 240,000 km or 10 years, whichever comes first. At every timing belt service, always replace the full kit including the belt, tensioner, and pulley rather than the belt alone.
Both the TD4 and SD4 use the same 2.2-litre PSA DW12 diesel engine block and the same four-wheel drive Haldex coupling system. The difference is in the turbocharger specification and engine tune. The TD4 produces 160 hp and uses a single turbocharger. The SD4 produces 190 hp from the same block through a higher-specification turbocharger and revised engine calibration. Because of this difference, turbocharger assemblies, some engine management sensors, and calibration-sensitive components are not directly interchangeable between TD4 and SD4 variants. Confirm your engine designation before ordering turbocharger or induction system components.
No. The Freelander 2 (L359) and Freelander 1 (L314) are built on entirely different platforms with different engines, gearboxes, and drivetrain systems. The Freelander 1 uses a Rover-era monocoque platform with a viscous coupling unit and intermediate reduction drive. The Freelander 2 uses the Ford EUCD platform with a Haldex active coupling. No engine, drivetrain, suspension, or electrical components are shared between the two generations. Parts designed for one generation will not fit the other.
