The eD4, TD4, and SD4 all use the same PSA DW12 2.2-litre diesel block. Many service items and body components are shared between these three variants. Turbocharger specification, injector calibration, and some engine management components differ between the TD4 and SD4. The Si4 and Si6 petrol engines use entirely different parts profiles and are not interchangeable with diesel variants or with each other.

DrivetrainFour-wheel drive Freelander 2 variants use a Haldex active coupling system to distribute torque between the front and rear axles.
