Crankshaft Assembly for the 2.5L 300TDi turbo-diesel engine - the rotating shaft at the base of the cylinder block that converts the pistons' reciprocating motion into rotary drive.

Running in the main bearings within the crankcase, the crankshaft's journals take the connecting rods so the pistons drive it through each power stroke. The nose carries the timing gear and front pulley, while the rear flange provides the mounting face for the flywheel. Supplied as a balanced assembly for the 300TDi.

End-float wear and, less often, cracking at a journal radius can also condemn the shaft. A knocking bottom end usually points to the crank or bearings.
