Thermostat Housing for the 2.5L 300TDi 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

This housing secures the engine thermostat within the cooling circuit and forms the junction between the engine coolant outlet, the upper radiator hose connection, and the bypass circuit. A cracked or leaking housing will cause coolant loss and disrupted thermostat operation. Replacement of the housing gasket and thermostat is recommended when refitting.

Frequently asked questions

What does the thermostat housing do on the 300Tdi?
The thermostat housing holds the thermostat in the cooling circuit of the 2.5L 300Tdi engine. It's the junction between the coolant outlet, the upper radiator hose connection and the bypass circuit, directing coolant flow as the thermostat opens and closes.
What are the signs a 300Tdi thermostat housing needs replacing?
A cracked or leaking thermostat housing causes coolant loss and disrupted thermostat operation, often showing as coolant weeping around the housing or an erratic running temperature. Renew the housing if it's cracked or the sealing faces are corroded.
Should anything else be replaced with the thermostat housing?
Replace the housing gasket and the thermostat when refitting the 300Tdi thermostat housing. The gasket won't reseal reliably once disturbed, and fitting a fresh thermostat while the housing is off avoids a second job later.
Which models does this thermostat housing fit?
It fits the Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1 (to VIN MA081992) and Range Rover Classic (from VIN JA610294) with the 300Tdi engine. Use your VIN to confirm fitment, as the Discovery 1 application changes after the listed VIN.
