Frequently asked questions

What is the rear oil seal housing gasket for the 300 TDi?
The rear oil seal housing gasket seals the rear crankshaft oil seal housing to the rear face of the 300 TDi cylinder block. It forms the oil-tight joint between the rear seal carrier and the block, working alongside the rear crankshaft oil seal it houses to contain engine oil at the back of the crankcase.
Where does this gasket fit on the engine?
This gasket fits at the back of the 300 TDi engine, between the rear crankshaft seal carrier and the rear face of the cylinder block. It sits behind the flywheel area where the seal housing bolts to the block.
Can the housing gasket be reused once removed?
No, fit a new housing gasket whenever the rear seal carrier is removed. Gaskets like this are single-use and typically replaced together with the rear crankshaft oil seal they sit behind, since both are only reached once the gearbox and flywheel are off.
Which engines and vehicles does this gasket fit?
This gasket fits the 2.5L 300 TDi engine in the Defender 1987-2006, Discovery 1 up to VIN MA081992, and Range Rover Classic 1992-1994 from VIN JA610294. Check your VIN against these breaks where your vehicle sits near the change points.
