Frequently asked questions

What does the centre PTO seal do?
The centre PTO seal seals around the rotating output shaft where it passes through the centre power take-off housing. It keeps the lubricant inside the housing and stops dirt and moisture getting in at the shaft, on Land Rovers fitted with a centre power take-off.
Should the centre PTO seal be replaced every time it's disturbed?
Yes, the PTO seal is best replaced whenever the power take-off shaft or housing is disturbed. Shaft seals like this typically distort once removed and won't reseal reliably, so refitting an old one usually leads to a leak. Fit a new seal as standard during the job.
Which vehicles take the centre PTO seal?
This centre PTO seal fits the Defender with the four-cylinder centre power take-off up to VIN (V)MA962814, and the Range Rover Classic power take-off up to HA610293. Confirm by VIN that your vehicle has the centre PTO, as not all were fitted with one.
