The pressure relief valve sits in the oil pump housing at the front of the engine and bleeds oil back to the sump once pressure rises above the pump's regulated maximum, protecting the filter, cooler and bearing feeds from over-pressure on cold starts. Wear in the valve bore or a tired spring shows as low or erratic oil pressure, and this kit overhauls the valve without renewing the complete oil pump.
