CV Joint Kit for the front axle swivel housing assembly. The constant velocity joint sits at the outer end of the front axle shaft, inside the swivel housing, and transmits drive to the stub axle while allowing the road wheel to steer.

This kit covers the earlier non-ABS front axle configuration.

Supplied as a boxed kit holding the parts needed to replace a single constant velocity joint, so two kits are required to replace both sides.

Frequently asked questions

What is this CV joint kit used for?
This kit rebuilds a single constant velocity (CV) joint in the front axle swivel housing, the joint that transmits drive to the stub axle while letting the front wheel steer. It covers the non-ABS front axle configuration.
How many kits do I need to do both sides?
Two kits. Each kit is supplied as a boxed set for replacing one CV joint, so a pair is needed to overhaul both front driveshafts.
What does non-ABS mean for this kit and how do I check my VIN?
This kit fits the Discovery 1 (1989-1998) up to VIN JA32850, before the ABS-equipped front axle was introduced. Check your VIN against this break point, since the ABS version uses a different kit.
Why do CV joints fail on the Discovery 1?
CV joints typically fail when the protective gaiter splits, letting grease out and dirt and water in, leading to joint wear. A clicking or knocking noise on full steering lock is the usual sign, worsening under load.
