The 13-pin connector to ISO 11446 combines the trailer lighting functions and the auxiliary supply circuits in one socket, so a trailer or caravan with a 13-pin plug connects without an adaptor.

A dedicated kit takes its signals from the vehicle's own wiring rather than by splicing into the lamp circuits, keeping trailer lighting under the control of the vehicle's electrical system. The towbar itself is not part of this kit.
