Expansion Valve - the refrigerant metering device at the evaporator of the air conditioning system.

A block-type thermostatic expansion valve, it carries both the liquid feed into the evaporator and the vapour return to the compressor. It restricts the high-pressure liquid refrigerant so that it drops in pressure and boils off inside the evaporator, and modulates that flow according to the temperature of the refrigerant leaving the evaporator, so the matrix is fully used and no liquid refrigerant reaches the compressor.

Renew the O-ring seals at the pipe joints whenever the valve is disturbed.
