Timing Chain Guide - Lower - lower timing chain guide and tensioner arm for the M62 4.4L V8 petrol engine.

Part of the timing drive at the front of the engine. It bears against the lower timing chain along its run, holding the chain on its intended path and taking up slack in conjunction with the chain tensioner so that valve timing stays accurate and chain noise is controlled.

The running face wears in service; a worn or cracked guide allows chain slap and is normally renewed together with the chain and tensioner.

Frequently asked questions

What does the lower timing chain guide do on the Range Rover L322 V8?
It's part of the timing drive at the front of the M62 4.4L V8 petrol engine, bearing against the lower timing chain to hold it on its path. It works with the tensioner to keep valve timing accurate and chain noise controlled.
Does this guide need replacing on its own or with other parts?
It's normally renewed together with the timing chain and tensioner as a set. Replacing the guide alone while leaving a worn chain in place typically means repeat failure within a short interval.
What tools are needed to fit this guide?
Fitting requires stripping the front timing cover on the M62 V8, which is a specialist job needing the correct chain-holding tools to keep valve timing synchronized while the chain is off. It's not a driveway repair.
Why does the timing chain guide wear out?
The running face wears from constant contact with the moving chain, and a worn or cracked guide lets the chain slap against the timing case. This typically shows up as rattle from the front of the engine on cold start.
Does this guide fit all Range Rover L322 V8s?
It fits the Range Rover L322 built 2002 to 2009 with the 4.4L M62 V8 petrol engine. Later L322 V8 variants may use a revised timing chain design, so confirm your build year before ordering.
