Brand Denso
Starter Motor for the engine starting system of the 2.7L V6 Lion turbo-diesel (TDV6).

On ignition the integral solenoid throws the drive pinion into mesh with the flywheel ring gear and the electric motor cranks the crankshaft until the engine fires, at which point the pinion retracts. It draws high current directly from the battery through the starter relay and main lead.

Mounted to the engine block / bellhousing at the flywheel, it is a self-contained unit combining the motor, solenoid and drive gear.

Frequently asked questions

What does the LR087021 starter motor do?
The LR087021 starter motor cranks the engine to start it. Its integral solenoid throws the drive pinion into the flywheel ring gear, then the electric motor spins the crankshaft until the engine fires. It's a self-contained Denso unit combining motor, solenoid and drive gear.
Which Land Rover does this starter motor fit?
This starter motor fits the Discovery 4 2010-2016 with the 2.7L V6 Lion TDV6 diesel engine. It mounts to the engine block at the bellhousing, next to the flywheel. Confirm your engine is the 2.7 V6 diesel before ordering.
What are the signs of a failing starter motor?
A failing starter typically cranks slowly, clicks without turning the engine, or does nothing on the key. Worn brushes and a tired solenoid are common causes. A flat battery or bad earth can mimic these symptoms, so check those first.
