Mounted in the exhaust stream at the NOx trap, the sensor reports exhaust gas temperature to the engine control unit. The ECU uses this signal to manage the storage and purge cycles of the lean NOx trap and to control regeneration, keeping the aftertreatment system within its effective operating temperature window for EU6 emissions compliance.
