Water Bypass Hose from the thermostat housing group of the engine cooling circuit, fitted to the 2.0L Ingenium four-cylinder petrol engine (AJ200 and AJ20P4 series).

The bypass hose carries coolant along the short circuit that runs around the thermostat, so the water pump continues to move coolant through the engine while the thermostat is still closed during warm-up. Once the thermostat opens, flow transfers to the radiator circuit.

Moulded hose. Hardening, swelling and weeping at the connections are the normal failure modes, and the hose is best renewed whenever the thermostat or its housing is disturbed.
