Alternator - belt-driven charging unit for the supercharged 3.0L V6 and 5.0L V8 petrol applications.

Driven from the crankshaft by the front end accessory drive belt, the alternator converts engine rotation into three-phase alternating current, rectifies it to DC through its internal diode pack and regulates the output voltage to supply the vehicle's electrical loads and maintain battery state of charge.

A failing alternator shows as a charge warning lamp, low or fluctuating system voltage, or a battery that discharges under load. Inspect the accessory drive belt, tensioner and pulley condition whenever the alternator is renewed.
