Front Axle Drive Shaft - Joint and Stub Shaft, part of the front axle drive assembly.

It transmits drive from the front differential to the front wheel, combining a constant velocity joint with its splined stub shaft. The constant velocity joint allows torque to be transmitted smoothly through a continuously varying angle as the suspension articulates and the steering is turned, while the splines transfer that torque to the mating component.

The joint is grease-packed and sealed by a rubber boot. A split boot allows grease to be thrown out and lets water and grit into the joint, which is the usual cause of joint wear and of the clicking noise heard when turning on full lock.
