Turbocharger - Right-Hand, Secondary - the right-hand turbocharger of the sequential twin-turbo installation on the 3.0L V6 diesel engine.

In this arrangement the primary turbocharger works across the whole rev range while the secondary unit is brought in by the changeover valves at higher engine speed and load, extending boost delivery at the top end. The unit combines the exhaust-driven turbine, the compressor wheel that feeds the charge air circuit, and the centre bearing housing supplied with engine oil and coolant.

The oil feed and return lines must be clean and unrestricted on installation: restricted or contaminated oil supply is the most common cause of turbocharger bearing failure, and a new unit fitted to a blocked feed will fail the same way.
