Water Charge Cooler - heat exchanger of the indirect charge air cooling circuit on the 2.0L Ingenium four-cylinder engine (AJ200 petrol and diesel).

These engines cool the charge air with coolant rather than with ambient airflow. Compressed air leaving the turbocharger passes through the charge air cooler, and the heat picked up there is carried away by a dedicated low-temperature coolant circuit with its own pump; this unit is where that circuit gives up its heat. Keeping charge air temperature down raises the density of the air entering the cylinders and holds intake temperatures inside the window the engine management expects.

A cooler that is leaking externally, weeping into the charge air path, or silted up internally typically shows as coolant loss, reduced boost or raised intake air temperatures. Supplied as the cooler assembly only; hoses, seals and clips are separate parts.
