Relay - 20 A five-pin micro relay, black housing.

A five-pin relay is a changeover type: a low-current control circuit energises the coil, which switches the common terminal between a normally-closed and a normally-open output. This allows a high-current load to be switched by a low-current signal from a switch or control module, keeping heavy current out of the switch wiring.

Rated at 20 A and built to the micro footprint, it plugs into a relay base in the engine compartment, passenger compartment or luggage compartment fuse box. Relay failure most often shows as an intermittent or dead circuit that returns when the relay is swapped with an identical unit.
