Exhaust Gas Pressure Sensor for the diesel particulate filter, in the exhaust aftertreatment sensing group.

Connected by pressure pipes across the particulate filter, the sensor converts exhaust back-pressure into an electrical signal for the engine control module. The module uses that reading to calculate soot loading in the filter, to decide when an active regeneration cycle is required, and to confirm that the filter has cleared afterwards. The same signal allows a blocked, damaged or absent filter to be detected.

A failed sensor, or a blocked or leaking pressure pipe, commonly causes unnecessary or aborted regeneration cycles, a particulate filter warning, restricted-performance mode and raised fuel consumption.
