Front Wheel Knuckle, left-hand side - the suspension upright at the outer end of the front axle, part of the front hub and knuckle assembly.

The knuckle locates the front wheel hub and bearing and forms the steered pivot of the corner: the upper and lower control arms connect to it through ball joints, the track rod end screws into its steering arm, and the brake caliper carrier and disc shield bolt to its machined faces. Its bearing bore, ball joint tapers and threaded mountings set wheel bearing seating, brake caliper alignment and the camber and caster of that corner.

A knuckle with a worn bearing bore, an ovalised or seized ball joint taper, damaged threads or any sign of impact distortion is replaced rather than reworked, and the wheel alignment is checked afterwards.
