The arm locates the lower end of the front steering knuckle to the subframe, controlling wheel position under cornering and braking loads while allowing the knuckle to travel vertically with the suspension.

The mounting bushes are the usual wear point. Play or perished rubber typically presents as knocking over uneven surfaces, vague steering feel, and front wheel alignment that will not hold its setting. Renew the arm before setting the alignment.
