Frequently asked questions

What does the LR174675 air conditioning compressor do?
The LR174675 is the Genuine Land Rover air conditioning compressor for plug-in hybrid Discovery Sport and Evoque models. The compressor pressurises refrigerant and circulates it through the A/C system, which is what allows the cabin to be cooled and the evaporator to dehumidify the air.
Does this compressor fit non-hybrid Discovery Sport and Evoque?
No. It's listed for PHEV vehicles only: Discovery Sport L550 from 2015 with the electric engine battery and 1.5L AJ20P3 petrol, from VIN (V)LH000001, and Range Rover Evoque L551 from 2019 in the same PHEV form. Conventional petrol and diesel versions use a different compressor.
Which system does this compressor belong to?
The air conditioning and climate control system. On PHEV Discovery Sport and Evoque the A/C circuit typically also conditions the cabin while the engine is off, which is why the compressor specification differs from the conventional petrol and diesel versions of the same models.
What are the signs of a failing A/C compressor?
Warm air at the vents with the system on, a rattle or squeal from the compressor area, or the system cutting out shortly after engaging. A refrigerant leak elsewhere gives the same warm-air symptom, so have the system pressure tested before condemning the compressor.
Is compressor replacement a DIY job?
No. The refrigerant has to be recovered with the correct equipment before the compressor comes off, and the system needs evacuating and recharging to specification afterwards. Venting refrigerant to atmosphere is illegal in the EU. This is an air conditioning specialist's job.
