Drive Belt Tensioner - engine front-end accessory drive.

Sprung arm carrying an idler pulley that maintains correct tension on the accessory drive belt throughout the engine speed range, taking up belt stretch and damping torsional pulses from the crankshaft. Fitted to the 3.0L AJ20D6 Ingenium diesel engine.

A worn tensioner shows as bearing noise, pulley wobble or belt flutter. Common practice is to renew the drive belt at the same time.
