Aftermarket Part
Aftermarket: Quality alternative. This is a quality alternative, designed to fit and function like the original part, often at a more competitive price.
Heated exhaust gas oxygen (HEGO) sensor, front (pre-catalyst) position, for the 4.4L V8 petrol engine (M62 B44).

The sensor sits in the exhaust upstream of the catalytic converter and measures residual oxygen in the gas leaving the cylinder head. Its signal is the primary feedback the engine control module uses to trim injector pulse width and hold the air/fuel ratio at stoichiometric. An integral heater element brings the sensing tip to operating temperature quickly after a cold start, so closed-loop fuelling is established sooner.

The engine carries one front sensor per bank. A lazy or failed sensor shows as poor fuel economy, rough running, elevated emissions and a stored fuelling or sensor-heater fault code.

Frequently asked questions

What is the HEGO oxygen sensor and what does it do?
It's the front, pre-catalyst heated oxygen (HEGO) sensor for the 4.4L V8 petrol engine (BMW M62 B44). It measures residual oxygen in the exhaust so the ECM can trim fuelling to stoichiometric, with an integral heater bringing it up to temperature quickly. Fits the Range Rover L322 4.4 V8.
Where does it fit and how many are needed?
The HEGO sensor threads into the exhaust upstream of the catalytic converter, with one front sensor per bank on the M62 V8. Confirm whether you need one or both sides. A lazy sensor typically shows as poor economy, rough running and a stored fuelling fault code.
How do I confirm this fits my vehicle?
This front HEGO sensor fits the Range Rover L322 (2002-2009) with the 4.4 V8 M62 B44 petrol engine. Confirm your engine is the BMW-sourced 4.4 V8 before ordering, as sensors and connectors differ between the V8 variants.
